Dehradun – The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and the Municipal Corporation jointly carried out a major anti-encroachment operation on Saharanpur Road’s Transport Nagar, removing illegal structures and clearing shop extensions that had long been obstructing public movement. Alongside this, the MDDA sealed unauthorized constructions in Dhauhran Road, IT Park, Rajpur Road, and Jamnawala areas.

For months, residents and commuters had complained that encroachments outside shops in Transport Nagar were causing traffic congestion and daily inconvenience. Taking strict note, MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari directed swift action. Under the leadership of MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia, a joint team with the Municipal Corporation launched a demolition drive on Friday. Nearly 15 to 20 shops were cleared, with permanent and temporary structures demolished using bulldozers. Despite resistance from shopkeepers, heavy police deployment ensured the drive proceeded without disruption.

MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia emphasized that illegal encroachments will not be tolerated. “Maintaining the city’s beauty and smooth traffic flow is a priority. Similar campaigns will continue in other parts of the city,” he said.

During the parallel sealing action, authorities sealed six unauthorized residential structures on Dhauhran Road by Yug Real LLP (Devash Vairani). Unauthorized constructions by Nitin Makin near IAS Colony on Rajpur Road and by Sanjesh Kumar Yadav in Jamnawala were also sealed under orders of Joint Secretary Gaurav Chatwal. The action involved Assistant Engineer Shailendra Singh Rawat, Junior Engineers Gaurav Tomar and Umesh Verma, supervisors, and police personnel.

MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari stated, “Preserving Dehradun’s urban character and developmental integrity is our top priority. Illegal constructions and encroachments will not be tolerated. Continuous action will be taken against violators to ensure a planned and clean city.”

Mayor of Dehradun, Saurabh Thapliyal, supported the move, saying, “Encroachments not only disrupt traffic and public life but also damage the city’s beauty and structure. The Municipal Corporation, along with MDDA, will continue to take strict measures against such practices. Citizens’ cooperation is key to building a smart and organized city.”

Looking ahead, MDDA and the Municipal Corporation have announced a weekly review campaign against encroachments. A helpline and online portal will soon be launched to allow residents to register complaints directly, with prompt action promised on verified reports. Officials confirmed that this campaign will be sustained to free the city from illegal occupation and to ensure systematic development.
