The Uttarakhand Ex-Servicemen Welfare Corporation (UPNAL) has announced financial assistance of ₹1.5 lakh to the families of its employees in case of their death. Additionally, one village in each district will witness welfare projects related to ex-servicemen. The announcement was made by Soldier Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi on the occasion of UPNAL’s 21st Foundation Day. He also stated that 50% of UPNAL’s income will be allocated to the welfare fund. Considering the Mana disaster, the corporation will contribute ₹1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Significant Role of UPNAL in Employment Generation
Minister Joshi highlighted UPNAL’s significant role in providing employment to ex-servicemen, war widows, and their dependents. Most soldiers retire at the age of 35 to 40, often with ongoing family responsibilities. UPNAL has been instrumental in providing them with stable employment opportunities.
The state government has approved free land for UPNAL’s headquarters, expected to be completed within a year. To date, approximately 24,746 unemployed individuals have been provided jobs through UPNAL, with 2,500 ex-servicemen securing jobs across various states in the past year. Another 2,500 employment opportunities are in progress, contributing to an estimated annual service charge revenue of ₹40 crore for UPNL.
