Dehradun – A two-day scientific and live surgery session on Coloproctology Studies began at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, under the Department of Surgery of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (SGRRIM&HS). The program brought together surgeons, medical practitioners, and students from various states to discuss advanced surgical techniques for rectal and anal diseases.
On the first day, Friday, a scientific session was held, while Saturday will feature live surgical demonstrations. During the session, experts explained the medical aspects of laser and stapler techniques and highlighted the effectiveness of advanced laser surgeries in treating rectal and anal disorders.
The event, titled Fellowship in International Society of Coloproctology, was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Ashok Nayak, Principal of SGRRIM&HS, along with Director Dr. Manoj Gupta and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Anil Malik. Dr. Nayak stated that this two-day special program focuses on diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the rectum and anal canal.
Senior surgeon Dr. J.P. Sharma of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital presented detailed insights into modern surgical procedures for rectal and anal canal diseases. He explained that these conditions are linked to the final sections of the digestive tract and are now treated more effectively with advancements in coloproctology.
Dr. Sharma emphasized that coloproctology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders such as fistula, fissure, hemorrhoids, and prolapse. He noted that with techniques like laser surgery, Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal artery ligation, and minimally invasive procedures, treatments have become safer, less painful, and faster. He also stressed the importance of accurate diagnosis, timely treatment, and lifestyle improvement to prevent such diseases.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Organizing Secretary Dr. Pradeep Singhal. Among the key participants were Dr. L.D. Ladulkar, Dr. Prashant Rahate, Dr. Dinesh Shah, Dr. Shanti Vardhan, Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Alok Kumar Mathur, Dr. R.K. Verma, and Dr. Ajay Verma, along with numerous medical students and surgeons.
