External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.
After the meeting, Jaishankar shared on the social media platform ‘X’:
“Delighted to meet Dr. Anwar Gargash. We discussed advancing the unique India-UAE partnership.”
The meeting was part of Jaishankar’s three-day visit to the UAE from January 27 to 29.
India-UAE Strategic Ties
The diplomatic relationship between India and the UAE, established in 1972, has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership. This transformation gained momentum with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to the UAE in 2015, which bolstered bilateral cooperation across trade, energy, and security.
UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) has also visited India on several occasions, including the 2023 G20 Summit and the 2024 Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations.
Economic and Cultural Bonds
The 3.5 million-strong Indian expatriate community in the UAE, making up 35% of the country’s population, plays a pivotal role in fostering economic and cultural collaboration. This community contributes significantly to sectors such as construction, healthcare, and trade, further solidifying the robust India-UAE partnership.
