In a major health initiative, IG Kumaon Ridhim Aggarwal has launched the ‘Fit Uttarakhand Police’ campaign to promote physical fitness among police personnel. The campaign will identify overweight officers, as well as those suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, across all six districts of the Kumaon region.
As part of the initiative, weekly parade sessions will be held every Friday at the district police lines for identified personnel. The Reserve Inspectors (RIs) of each police line will now also serve as Police Health Welfare Officers to oversee the programme.
The IG has directed all SSPs to prepare and forward lists of police officers and staff affected by obesity, hypertension, or diabetes. These personnel must attend the Friday parades, during which their health conditions will be monitored, and diet plans tailored by nutrition experts will be implemented. The experts will also educate them on calorie management and balanced diets.
Those suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, or kidney and liver failure will receive priority medical leave. Detailed health records of such cases will be maintained, and Circle Officers (COs) will be tasked with regular welfare check-ins for the affected employees and their families.
In addition to treating current health issues, the campaign also aims to prevent future illness. Healthy officers will be guided on incorporating yoga, physical exercises, balanced diets, and lifestyle changes to stay fit. SSPs and SPs of all Kumaon districts have been instructed to submit comprehensive health reports of their staff to the IG.
