Dehradun Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi distributed 169 free motorised tricycles to persons with disabilities at a programme organised at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities. The tricycles were provided through ALIMCO and funded under the CSR initiative of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC), which contributed nearly ₹1 crore for the project.
During the event, Minister Joshi appreciated PFC for supporting the initiative and said the programme represents more than distribution—it is a strong step towards empowerment. He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, various schemes are being implemented to ensure dignity, accessibility and self-reliance for Divyang citizens and senior citizens across the country.
Joshi highlighted that the government is effectively running centralised schemes for the social, cultural and economic upliftment of marginalised groups. He also noted that the Unique Disability ID (UDID) project is now operational in all 785 districts, ensuring a centralised database for Divyang citizens nationwide.
Sharing updates on ongoing initiatives, he said three PM Divyasha Kendras have already been established in Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haldwani. A dedicated institute has also been set up in Delhi to promote Indian Sign Language, with the ISL Dictionary now expanded with an additional 2,500 words across 10 languages.
The minister said that the motorised tricycles will significantly improve mobility and create new opportunities for recipients. He emphasised that the state government is committed to ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, livelihood, transport and social security for all Divyang citizens.
The programme was attended by PFC General Manager Durgesh Rangera, District Social Welfare Officer Deepankar Ghildiyal, ALIMCO Senior Manager Harish Kumar, NIVH Adarsh School Principal Amit Sharma, Anil Singh and several dignitaries.
