Portals of Gangotri Dham close for winters

Uttarkashi. The doors of Gangotri Dham will open for devotees on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, with temple authorities also announcing a restriction on the entry of non-Sanatanis during the Char Dham Yatra.

According to Temple Committee President Dharmanand Semwal, the shrine will open on April 19 at 12:15 PM during the शुभ लाभ बेला. Preparations for the opening ceremony will begin a day earlier, on April 18, when the idol of Goddess Ganga will be ceremonially taken from her winter abode at Mukhba village to Gangotri Dham.

The procession will depart from Mukhba with traditional rituals, accompanied by an army band and local musical instruments like dhol and damau. The procession will halt overnight at Bhairav Temple in Bhairav Ghati before proceeding on foot to Gangotri Dham the next morning.

On Akshaya Tritiya, the temple gates will be opened with full धार्मिक विधि-विधान for a period of six months, marking the beginning of the annual Char Dham Yatra.

Meanwhile, Temple Committee Vice President Arun Semwal stated that this year, non-Sanatanis will not be allowed entry into the temple premises during the pilgrimage season. The decision has been taken to maintain religious sanctity during the yatra.
