Despite multiple rounds of counseling, 67 teaching positions in Chamoli district remain vacant as candidates continue to avoid joining. Preference for plains districts is increasing, leading to a growing disinterest in government jobs in remote hill areas.
Under the recruitment process for assistant teachers in government primary schools, 360 out of 446 positions were opened for appointments in Chamoli. After four rounds of counseling, 293 candidates joined, but 67 candidates never reported. The fifth round of counseling has now been initiated, yet only 18 candidates have turned up so far.
Many candidates, after attending counseling in Chamoli, opted for Dehradun, Haridwar, or other plains districts when selected there. Some candidates refused to join after visiting remote schools for the first time. This situation continues to cause a severe shortage of teachers in hill districts, affecting education in remote areas.
