The Uttarakhand government will provide ₹5 lakh in immediate relief to families whose houses were completely destroyed in the recent Dharali, Sainji, and Bankuda disasters. Additionally, ₹5 lakh compensation will be given to the families of those who lost their lives. After returning from Uttarkashi on Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced these measures, stating that the assistance aims to give financial support to affected families during this challenging time.
To oversee rehabilitation and livelihood restoration, a three-member committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Revenue Secretary Dr. Surendra Narayan. Members include UCADA CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan and Additional Secretary (Finance) Himanshu Khurana. The panel will submit a report within a week, outlining a long-term and effective plan for the future of Dharali village, focusing on community safety and sustainable livelihoods. The CM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stand with every disaster-affected citizen, ensuring swift and effective relief and rehabilitation actions. Assessment of damage to houses, land, farms, and other assets is already underway, with compensation distribution set to begin within two to three days.
On the fifth day after the disaster, power supply was restored to Harshil and Dharali as UPCL worked at war footing to light up the affected areas. To strengthen search operations, a GPR radar from the National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, has been deployed in Dharali to help locate people trapped under debris.
