Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the revision of GST rates will boost Uttarakhand’s economy while providing relief to people across different sections of society. From September 22, the revised GST rates have come into effect nationwide, including in Uttarakhand. On Sunday, the CM addressed ministers, MLAs, and public representatives virtually, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking this historic decision in public interest.
To ensure that the benefits of the new tax structure reach the public and business community quickly, Dhami announced a state-wide awareness drive from September 22 to 29. During this campaign, in-charge ministers will lead efforts in their districts, while MLAs will conduct programs in their constituencies. The CM emphasized that the revised GST rates will not only strengthen the state’s financial framework but also support the “Vocal for Local” and “Local to Global” initiatives.
Highlighting Uttarakhand’s potential, Dhami noted that the state’s umbrella brand “House of Himalayas,” along with 27 GI-tagged products, the “One District Two Products” scheme, and local handicrafts and agricultural produce, will gain a significant push under the new GST structure. He added that these measures will increase self-employment opportunities and contribute to building a self-reliant Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister also directed the industries department to further strengthen GI-tagged products and district-level specialties to meet market demand. He said the revised GST will promote ease of doing business, benefiting both consumers and producers, while also enabling small entrepreneurs to connect with national and international markets.
During the meeting, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal explained the advantages of the revised GST rates for both citizens and traders. The session was attended by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, Cabinet Ministers Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat and Rekha Arya, along with MLAs and other representatives.
