Residents in Haldwani are facing electricity disruptions as the power department has started scheduled shutdowns to connect new lines from a recently built power house. The shutdowns are being carried out as part of infrastructure upgrades to improve electricity supply in the region.
According to officials, the new power house has been constructed in the ITI campus at Dahariya to meet the rising number of electricity consumers in the area. Work is currently underway to lay new power lines connecting Dahariya and nearby localities.
On Sunday, power supply remained suspended from 9 AM to 5 PM in areas connected to the TP Nagar and Kamaluwaganja power houses, causing inconvenience to residents. The eight-hour power outage affected daily activities in several localities.
Officials said that shutdowns in different areas under the Haldwani Rural Division will continue until March 16. In addition to the new line work, electricity department teams have also started replacing open wires with All Aluminium Alloy Conductor (AAAC) cables in Lalkuan to improve safety and reliability of the power network.
S. K. Gupta said the new power house at Dahariya has been built considering the continuous increase in electricity consumers. He added that the new lines are essential for strengthening the power supply system in the region.
Shutdowns in areas connected to TP Nagar and Kamaluwaganja power houses have already begun and will continue till March 15, while areas linked to the Lalkuan power house will experience power cuts until March 16. Officials have appealed to residents to cooperate during the maintenance and upgrade work.
