A fire broke out at a surgical cotton factory in the Bahadrabad area of Haridwar on Wednesday morning, causing significant financial damage. No casualties were reported as the factory was closed for the Holi festival.

The incident occurred near Shantarshah at Secure Surgical Cotton Factory under Bahadrabad police station limits. According to initial information, the fire started due to a short circuit in a transformer. As soon as flames erupted, panic spread in the surrounding area.

Cotton and other stored materials inside the unit fueled the blaze, leading to thick smoke and rapid spread of fire. A passerby informed the police, following which Station House Officer Vijay Singh and Shantarshah outpost in-charge Umesh Kumar Lodhi reached the spot with a team. The fire brigade was immediately alerted.

Fire tenders from Bahadrabad and Mayapur — three in total — rushed to the site. After hours of effort, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
