Haridwar Groom Duped by Looteri Bride, Police File Case After Court Order

Haridwar: In a shocking incident from Jwalapur, a groom was cheated by a so-called “looteri bride” who fled just four days after marriage with jewellery worth lakhs and ₹1 lakh cash. The case came to light only after the victim approached the court, which ordered police to register an FIR.

The complainant, Vinod Thakur, a resident of Subhashnagar and employed under a contractor at BHEL Ranipur, alleged that some women tricked him into marriage as part of a pre-planned fraud. Vinod stated that his acquaintance with two women, Sangeeta and Suman, eventually led him to Pinky alias Poonam and Jyoti alias Soni.

According to Vinod, Jyoti introduced Pinky as her unmarried sister and offered to arrange the marriage. On May 7, Vinod married Pinky after providing jewellery including a gold nose pin, earrings, a mangalsutra, silver anklets, toe rings, and ₹1 lakh in cash to Suman and Jyoti.

However, just four days later, on May 12, Pinky disappeared from his home with all the valuables and cash. Vinod alleged that the women involved have cheated other men in similar ways and often threatened victims with false cases.

Acting on the court’s order, Jwalapur Kotwali police registered a case against Pinky, Jyoti (resident of Gram Silai, Tehsil Sisaur, District Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh), Sangeeta (resident of Dalipur, Paonta Sahib Road, Herbertpur, Dehradun), Suman (resident of Ambala Cantt, Haryana), and Mannu.
