A heated atmosphere prevailed during the second meeting of the Haridwar Municipal Corporation held at the auditorium of Rishikul Ayurvedic Medical College. The uproar began when several councillors raised concerns over illegal encroachments on municipal lands.
Councillors demanded that Municipal Commissioner Nandan Kumar take strict action to remove all unauthorized structures. Discontent also arose over the proposal to assign the responsibility of maintaining public parks to private institutions. Opposing councillors argued that park maintenance is the duty of the Municipal Corporation and handing it over to institutions often leads to permanent encroachment under the guise of development.
Several other issues were also raised during the meeting, including the imposition of house tax on apartments, verification of residents in slum areas, and action against unlawful occupations. Additionally, a proposal to build a dispensary on municipal land was rejected.
