Chamoli – A horrifying incident has shaken Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, where the severed head of a young child was discovered on the Deval–Beradhar motor road on Saturday. The police have taken the head into custody and sent it to Karnaprayag for post-mortem examination. The torso has not yet been found, and authorities have started an extensive search in the surrounding areas.
According to information from the site, local residents noticed the head lying near the zero-kilometre point of the Hatlyani–Beradhar road early in the morning. Shocked villagers immediately alerted the police. Officers reached the spot, sealed the area and began investigation.
Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Chourasia confirmed that only the head has been recovered, and the identity of the child remains unknown. He said the age can be determined only after medical reports are received. The missing torso has raised serious concerns, prompting police teams to conduct a wide search operation in nearby forested and remote stretches.
The incident has left villagers terrified, fearing a possible case of murder or ritual crime. Police are examining all possibilities, including checking missing child records and surveillance routes.
SHO Vinod Chourasia said that the information was first reported by the village guard to the Deval outpost, following which the head was sent for autopsy. Further forensic examination and post-mortem details are expected to guide the investigation.
