High-Speed Mercedes Crushes Four Laborers in Dehradun; Driver Arrested

In Dehradun’s Rajpur Road area, a high-speed Mercedes car ran over four laborers walking by the roadside on Wednesday night (March 12), killing them instantly. Instead of stopping, the driver fled after hitting a scooter, but was later caught by police.

Accident Details
The incident occurred around 11 PM when the four laborers were returning home after a day’s work. Eyewitnesses said the Mercedes was speeding and hit the laborers from behind with great force, throwing them nearly 30 meters away and damaging a nearby one-foot-high wall.

After the collision, the driver did not stop but struck a parked scooter before fleeing. Locals immediately informed the police and ambulance. The injured were first taken to Uttaranchal Ayurveda Hospital and then referred to Doon Hospital, where doctors declared four laborers dead and two others still admitted with injuries.

Driver Arrested, Police Reveal
On Thursday, SSP Ajay Singh held a press conference revealing that the 22-year-old driver and his 12-year-old nephew were in the car. The driver is a resident of Delhi, visiting relatives in Dehradun. The car belonged to his sister and brother-in-law.

SSP stated the car was moving at 70-75 km/h. After the crash, the accused left the car in an empty plot and fled on a friend’s scooter. Police traced him through CCTV footage and interrogation of the child. A case has been registered against the driver.

Eyewitness Accounts
Locals described the collision as sounding like a bomb blast. Four laborers were found unconscious on the road, with a damaged scooter nearby and two injured people wailing in pain. A witness said they were walking in the lane when the loud crash happened, and upon reaching the road, saw seriously injured people.

Police Response
Following the accident, police launched intensive checking across the city. IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop visited the site and ordered prompt action to apprehend the accused. Teams from Dehradun have gone to Delhi and Chandigarh to gather vehicle and owner details.

Laborers Returning After Hard Work
The four laborers were returning home after a day of hard labor, only to face a tragic end on the very path they took daily.
