Dehradun: The Mool Nivas Bhumi Kanoon Sangharsh Samiti has decided to escalate its fight for strong land laws and a clear definition of domicile. The committee has announced a decisive hunger strike beginning on Constitution Day, November 26, led by its convener, Mohit Dimri. In a crucial meeting held at the Shaheed Smarak in Dehradun, the committee passed several resolutions, including the start of the hunger strike at the same location. The movement has received widespread support from various political and social organizations, which will also stage demonstrations in solidarity with the strike.
The committee has demanded that the state government nullify amendments made to land laws post-2018 before November 26. It urged the government to call a cabinet meeting and issue an ordinance to repeal the changes. Additionally, it pressed for the publication of the draft land law and the removal of Section 2, which allows for the expansion of municipal areas at the cost of agricultural land. The demand for a uniform land law across urban and rural areas of Uttarakhand was also highlighted.
Another critical demand is defining domicile clearly. The committee has opposed the provision in the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) that considers individuals living in the state for just one year as permanent residents, calling for its immediate withdrawal.

Similarly, Surendra Singh Negi and Mahesh Singh Mehta from the Samanata Party expressed solidarity, affirming the people’s commitment to protecting their land and resources.
Veteran journalist Jai Singh Rawat criticized the government for failing to define domicile and address issues affecting Uttarakhand’s land ownership. “Mountains are being sold out, and the government remains silent,” he remarked.
Leaders from the Rashtrawadi Regional Party and other organizations, including Shivprasad Semwal, Ramesh Joshi, and Vinod Godiyal, called for mass participation in the movement. They argued that the struggle is essential to safeguarding Uttarakhand’s future and identity.
Key attendees included Sangharsh Samiti co-convenor Lushun Todariya, secretary Pranjal Naudiyal, and others such as Dinesh Bhandari, Vijay Rana, and Atul Ramola. The meeting witnessed participation from prominent activists and representatives from organizations like Suraj Seva Dal, OPS Association, and Dhaad. The hunger strike marks a significant step in the ongoing movement, as the committee and its supporters prepare for a decisive phase in their battle for Uttarakhand’s rights.
