Dehradun: Panic spread in the city on Thursday evening after a man’s body was found inside the IDBI Bank ATM near Saharanpur Chowk. The incident came to light when locals noticed a foul smell coming from the ATM and immediately informed the police.
Upon reaching the spot, police opened the ATM shutter and discovered a deceased man inside. According to locals, the ATM machine had been out of order for a long time, and no security guard was deployed at the site. The body has been sent to Coronation Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the security arrangements of banks and ATMs in the city. Police sources revealed that CCTV cameras at the ATM were non-functional, making it difficult to determine the exact time or cause of death.
Inspector Pradeep Pant, Station House Officer of Kotwali, stated that the deceased has not been identified yet. Preliminary investigation suggests that the man entered the ATM under the influence of alcohol and died there. Further investigation is underway.
