Dehradun, 3 Nov: On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Year of Uttarakhand’s statehood, former President of the Uttarakhand Statehood Movement Activists’ Council and BJP leader Ravindra Jugran expressed deep concern, saying that it is most unfortunate, worrying, and regrettable that even after 25 years of the formation of Uttarakhand, the glorious and world-renowned history of the Uttarakhand statehood movement has not yet been included in the school curriculum to educate our young generation.
Ravindra Jugran said that a child born in 1994, the year of the movement, is now 31 years old, yet this entire generation is unaware of the historic struggle behind the creation of the state.
He said that the Uttarakhand movement is not only of national importance but also a heritage of global significance, and the young generation must know and take pride in this glorious history.
Jugran further stated that the period from 1994 to 9 November 2000, marks a movement that served as a source of inspiration not only for India but for the entire world. The leadership of women (Matri Shakti) and their massive participation astonished the nation and the world alike. The involvement and leadership of former military personnel—from soldiers to generals—of the Army, Navy, and Air Force was remarkable and inspiring.
He added that despite facing state-sponsored terrorism, the martial communities of Uttarakhand chose the path of non-violence, which was exemplary. In a world standing at the brink of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare, the non-violent nature of the Uttarakhand statehood movement, despite such oppression, remains a beacon of inspiration.
Jugran concluded by saying that it is unfortunate and disappointing that the history of the Uttarakhand statehood movement—recognised as a world heritage—has still not been included in the educational curriculum of the state’s children.
