New Delhi, January 25, 2025 – Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to visit China on January 26-27, 2025, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties between India and China. During his visit, Misri will meet with China’s Vice Foreign Minister to discuss a range of significant issues of mutual interest and concern, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Key topics on the agenda include the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, political and economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this dialogue is part of ongoing discussions, which include meetings between special representatives and foreign ministers. The Secretary-Vice Minister framework is specifically designed to foster cooperation and resolve differences.
Over the past years, India and China have taken notable steps to reduce tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). In October 2024, both nations agreed on patrolling arrangements in the Depsang Plains and Demchok areas. Earlier, successful disengagement of troops in other parts of Ladakh had been achieved.
During the BRICS Summit in October 2024, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need to resolve border disputes and maintain peace. Subsequently, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held extensive talks in December 2024, addressing mutual concerns.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a significant step toward improving bilateral relations and enhancing mutual understanding on key issues.
