Following the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, the organization’s CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam declared that India has officially become the fourth-largest economy in the world, surpassing Japan. Citing International Monetary Fund (IMF) data, he confirmed that India has reached a $4 trillion GDP mark, now only trailing behind the United States, China, and Germany.
Subrahmanyam emphasized that if India continues on its current economic trajectory, it could become the world’s third-largest economy within the next 2.5 to 3 years. He stated that India is currently in a critical phase of rapid development, backed by a strong demographic dividend expected to last for the next 20 to 25 years.
He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to all Indian states to prepare individual vision documents, laying the groundwork for the collective goal of making India a developed nation. Subrahmanyam noted that this vision is not just an economic roadmap but a long-term national mission, with developed states leading to a developed India.
