New Delhi: India has welcomed the Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a significant step towards global peace. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India appreciates the progress made in the talks and believes that lasting solutions can only come through dialogue and diplomacy.
Jaiswal stressed that the world is closely watching the Ukraine war and that India has consistently maintained that war cannot resolve conflicts. He reiterated that mutual understanding and negotiations remain the most effective path to peace.
The Alaska summit drew global attention as it marked the first face-to-face meeting between Trump and Putin since the outbreak of the Ukraine war. While Trump described the talks as “very positive” and acknowledged some progress, he clarified that no major agreement had been reached yet. He added that further consultations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO leaders would follow.
Putin, on the other hand, praised Trump’s “friendly” tone and understanding of Russia’s national interests, though the summit concluded without any formal announcement or written agreement.
