The Indian Army has rejected the claim made by the banned insurgent group ULFA-I that it conducted drone and missile strikes on their camps near the India-Myanmar border. ULFA-I had alleged in a press release on Sunday that several mobile camps were targeted in a morning attack, resulting in the death of its ‘Lower Council’ chairman Nayan Asom (alias Nayan Medhi) and injuries to around 19 members.
In response, Indian Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat stated that the army has no information regarding any such operation. He categorically denied the group’s claims.
ULFA-I later issued another statement alleging that a second missile attack occurred during the cremation of Nayan Asom, killing two more of its senior members—‘Brigadier’ Ganesh Asom and ‘Colonel’ Pradeep Asom—and injuring several others, including civilians.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also dismissed the allegations, stating that the Assam Police or any state agency was not involved. “No attack was launched from our territory. If any military operation had taken place, the Army would have made it public,” he said, adding that more clarity on the situation might emerge by evening.
