Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the ongoing IPL 2025 season for one week. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla announced the decision on Friday, stating that the league will remain paused for seven days, after which the board will reassess the situation and release a revised schedule.
He added that there is no concern regarding the availability of a window, as all international boards have extended support. Regarding foreign players’ participation, Shukla mentioned that it will be their personal decision whether to continue or not.
Earlier, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal had insisted the tournament would proceed despite the regional instability, but the worsening geopolitical situation prompted the board to reverse that stance. The decision came a day after the Delhi Capitals vs. Punjab Kings match in Dharamshala was cancelled due to a technical fault in the floodlights, leading to the evacuation of players and spectators.
With 16 matches, including the final, still left to play, the IPL 2025 season was nearing its conclusion. The final was originally scheduled for May 25 in Kolkata. However, a senior BCCI official told PTI, “It does not feel right to continue cricket when the country is facing conflict.”
Meanwhile, in a related move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shifted its Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches to the UAE due to the prevailing security concerns.
