In a significant boost for technical education, students enrolled in government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Uttarakhand will now receive a monthly stipend of ₹8,000 alongside their training. According to State Minister Saurabh Bahuguna, the government has partnered with four major companies—Bajaj Auto Ltd, Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, and Himalayan Power Machine Manufacturing—to launch a dual training system in 32 out of the state’s 80 ITIs starting this year.
Under this new arrangement, students will receive half of their training within ITIs, where company representatives will provide on-site instruction, and the remaining half will be conducted at the partnering companies. During their on-site training, students will be paid at least ₹8,000 per month, with some companies offering even higher stipends.
This initiative aims to make youth more technically skilled and self-reliant. Trades covered under this program include welding, fitting, mechanics, auto body painting, and turning, with each ITI admitting 20 to 24 students under this scheme.
Additionally, ITI students will now receive funds for uniforms through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), similar to provisions in government schools. Although free uniforms were approved last year, implementation was delayed. This year, however, students will finally receive the allocated amount.
