The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced the extension of the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadline for the assessment year 2025–26. The original last date, 31 July 2025, has now been extended to 15 September 2025.
According to CBDT, the extension has been granted due to the need for updates in the ITR forms, system development, and crucial changes in the reflection of TDS credits. These adjustments are intended to provide taxpayers with more time and ensure a smoother and more accurate filing experience.
CBDT added that a formal notification regarding the revised deadline will be issued separately. The extension is expected to ease the compliance burden and offer better clarity to taxpayers and professionals amid the technical upgrades.
