Uttarakhand to Achieve 100% Tap Water Coverage in Rural Homes by December 2025

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, every rural household in Uttarakhand will receive tap water supply by December this year. Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha by BJP state president and MP Mahendra Bhatt, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V. Somanna shared this update in a written reply.

Somanna stated that the mission is being implemented across India with the participation of states and union territories to ensure tap water supply to all rural families. When the scheme began in Uttarakhand in August 2019, only 9% (around 1.30 lakh) rural households had tap water connections.

Since then, an additional 12.84 lakh rural families have been connected under the scheme. As of July 22, out of 14.49 lakh rural households in the state, over 14.14 lakh — that is, 97.63% — now have access to tap water.

The Union Minister further confirmed that Uttarakhand is on track to achieve 100% household coverage with piped water by December 2024.

In a separate response, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, stated that 6.85 lakh farmers in Uttarakhand benefited under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme between 2020–21 and 2024–25. A total of ₹965.7 crore was paid to farmers as compensation for crop losses.

Additionally, replying to another question, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol informed that 60 RCS (Regional Connectivity Scheme) routes connecting 13 operational airports and heliports in Uttarakhand are currently active.
