Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off a Kalash Yatra from his Dehradun residence on Friday. The sacred journey carries water from holy rivers across India, including those from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, for the jalabhishek (ritualistic bathing) of a statue of Lord Surya in Kushinagar district.
The Kalash Yatra is part of a national initiative to gather water from 151 sacred rivers to perform the jalabhishek of the Surya idol in Kushinagar. Water collected from Uttarakhand’s revered rivers was ceremonially sent off as a part of this initiative.
Present at the flagging-off ceremony were Mahamandaleshwar Shri 1008 Dr. Swami Santoshanand Dev Maharaj, Vinay Rai (Chairman, Purvanchal Mahotsav Committee), and other committee members. The initiative symbolizes unity through spiritual and cultural heritage, with Uttarakhand playing a key role as the land of origin for several sacred rivers.
