Under the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Railway Project, Karnaprayag Railway Station is set for a major expansion. Considering its strategic importance, the number of tracks will be increased from 22 to 26. A tender worth ₹611 crore has been issued for the expansion, and construction will begin soon.
According to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) officials, the expansion is designed to cater to strategic and military requirements. Four new tracks will be built inside two tunnels, which have already been planned. Additionally, a road tunnel will be constructed, connecting both railway tunnels and facilitating cargo unloading operations.
Key stations under the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Railway Project include Karnaprayag, Yog Nagari, and Srinagar. Karnaprayag will have 26 tracks, four passenger platforms, and one goods platform. Yog Nagari will feature 18 tracks and three passenger platforms, while Srinagar station will have five tracks, four passenger platforms, and one goods platform. Other stations along the route will have two or three tracks.
