The construction of ropeways to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib is set to begin soon following an MoU signed between the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and Uttarakhand’s Tourism Department. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said ropeway connectivity will not only enhance tourism but also strengthen the state’s economy.
As per the agreement, NHLML will hold 51 percent stake while the state government will have 49 percent. About 90 percent of the revenue generated will be reinvested into tourism, transport, and mobility projects. CM Dhami added that these projects will boost religious and cultural tourism, generate employment, and promote environmental conservation.
Under the Parvatmala scheme, a 12.9 km ropeway between Sonprayag and Kedarnath will be built at a cost of ₹4,100 crore, while a 12.4 km ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib will be constructed at a cost of ₹2,700 crore. Alongside these projects, Uttarakhand is also witnessing rapid expansion of road connectivity including the Char Dham All-Weather Road, Delhi-Dehradun Elevated Road, and other regional highways.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said development works are progressing rapidly under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Dhami. Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj added that the ropeways will significantly boost tourism, ease pilgrimages, and improve local livelihoods.
