Preparations for the upcoming Kedarnath Yatra are underway, but heavy snow accumulation continues to pose challenges at Kedarnath. Officials confirmed that nearly 3 to 4 feet of snow still covers the shrine area, delaying on-ground arrangements ahead of the pilgrimage season.

District Magistrate Vishal Mishra and Superintendent of Police Niharika Tomar conducted an inspection of the area along with representatives of the Kedarnath Sabha, Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, and local stakeholders. Authorities stated that teams have been deployed to clear the snow, and the process is being carried out on a priority basis.

Officials indicated that the allotment of shops in the temple परिसर will begin only after snow clearance is completed. Basic infrastructure, including drinking water, electricity, accommodation, and healthcare services, will also be restored in a phased manner before the yatra begins.

From a security perspective, three police personnel and 12 जवान from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police are currently stationed at the shrine. Additional arrangements are planned to ensure safe movement, crowd management, and emergency response once pilgrims start arriving.

Authorities have assured that all essential services will be operational before the start of the yatra. However, the continued presence of heavy snow even in late March highlights the impact of recent unseasonal weather conditions. Despite early signs of rising temperatures this month, rainfall and snowfall in recent weeks have led to one of the coldest late-March periods recorded in the past decade.

While preparations are progressing, timely snow clearance and infrastructure readiness will remain critical to avoid disruptions during the peak pilgrimage period.
