Kedarnath Yatra Halted for Three Days, Police Stop Pilgrims Attempting to Break Barrier

The Kedarnath Yatra has been suspended for three days following the Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Police have set up barriers in the market area and suspended shuttle services between Sonprayag and Gaurikund. Despite repeated announcements, many pilgrims continued to gather at Sonprayag, insisting on proceeding towards Kedarnath.

By 11 am on Wednesday, over 500 pilgrims had assembled, refusing to leave despite being informed about the weather alert. Some even attempted to break the barricade, forcing police to use mild force to disperse them. Heated exchanges occurred between the pilgrims and police personnel during the standoff.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikas Pundir stated that checkpoints have been set up to stop pilgrims for their safety until conditions improve. Three vehicle operators were also fined for violations. Authorities continue to urge people to remain in safe areas until the weather stabilises.
