Khat Shilgaon – Ban on Weddings in Luxury Hotels, Jewellery Limit Set, ₹1 Lakh Fine Warned

In a move aimed at curbing extravagance in social functions, villagers of Khat Shilgaon under the Panchra-Bhanjara area have imposed strict rules on wedding ceremonies and related events. The decision was taken during a meeting held at the Mahasu Devta Temple, chaired by Khat Syana Tulsi Ram Sharma.

With unanimous consent, it was decided that all weddings and associated rituals will be conducted only at homes or within the village. Organising marriages at luxury hotels, parks, farmhouses or commercial venues has been completely prohibited. The villagers said the decision was necessary to reduce financial pressure on families and discourage show-off culture.

As part of the new norms, women attending weddings will be allowed to wear only three items of jewellery. The use of DJs, fast food and beer during wedding functions has also been banned. For wedding invitations, the amount has been capped at a maximum of ₹100 for the first marriage, while the amount for kanyadaan has been left to the donor’s discretion.

The meeting also issued a strict warning that anyone violating these decisions will face a fine of ₹1 lakh. Along with the monetary penalty, the defaulter may also be subjected to social boycott within the village.

While villagers termed the decision a step towards social reform, some residents quietly expressed concern that such rigid rules and harsh penalties could lead to disputes or pressure on individual freedoms if not implemented sensitively.
