A fresh leopard attack in Ghandiyal village under Pokhra block, Kotdwar, has triggered fear among residents, days after a similar incident resulted in the death of an elderly woman. The latest victim, identified as Prabha Devi, was cutting grass with a group of women when a leopard suddenly attacked her, causing severe injuries.
According to locals, the wild animal pounced without warning, leading to panic at the spot. The other women raised an alarm, forcing the leopard to flee, after which the injured woman was rushed for treatment. Villagers allege that despite repeated sightings, no effective measures have been taken by the Forest Department to prevent human–wildlife conflict.
Only a few days ago, on 13 November, a leopard killed a woman named Rani Devi in Bagdi village under the same block, raising serious concerns over safety, lack of immediate intervention, and insufficient patrolling in the region. Residents claim that the danger is increasing and demand cage installation, regular monitoring, and emergency response teams before another life is put at risk.
