Sakshi, the daughter of Virendra Singh Kaintura from Mahar village in Hindaw Patti, was returning home after purchasing goods from a local shop on Saturday afternoon around 4:30 PM. Just 50 meters from her house, a leopard lying in wait ambushed her. Despite her cries for help, by the time villagers arrived, the leopard had dragged her into the bushes. Following her trail, villagers discovered her mutilated body about 50-60 meters away in the bushes.
Sakshi’s mother, Sangeeta, collapsed in shock upon seeing her daughter’s lifeless body. The news quickly spread through the village, and a large number of locals gathered at the site. Given that this is the third such attack in the area in three months, the community is enraged and demanding immediate action from the forest department to ensure the safety of children.
Forest ranger Ashish Nautiyal stated that after learning of the incident, a shooter has been deployed, and a watchtower has been set up to monitor the area. The team is waiting for the leopard to return to the site. The victim’s body remained at the scene until late in the evening, awaiting the arrival of the forest department team.
