Luminescence Dating Emerges as Key Tool to Understand Past Geological Events

Scientists at the Wadia Institute highlighted the growing importance of luminescence dating in studying historical geological events. Prof. Ashok Singhvi from the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, said the technique plays a crucial role in understanding Earth’s past and can provide accurate information for archaeological research.

Speaking on the second day of a workshop on luminescence dating, Prof. Singhvi explained the evolution, methods, and significance of luminescence signals. Wadia Institute Director Vineet Gehlot noted that this technique helps determine when major events like floods and earthquakes occurred in the past. Understanding these patterns, he said, enables better preparation for future hazards.
