Mahakumbh Stampede: CM Yogi Issues Strict Security Directives

Following a stampede during the Mauni Amavasya Snan at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held an emergency meeting and issued strict security directives. He emphasized that smooth traffic flow must be maintained within the Mela premises and exit routes from Prayagraj. The CM directed officials to ensure every pilgrim reaches their destination safely.

Key Measures Announced:

  • More special trains and buses: Additional Mela special trains and road transport buses will be deployed to prevent overcrowding at railway stations and bus terminals.
  • Traffic and security reinforcement: Increased police patrolling and traffic control measures were ordered to prevent congestion.
  • Monitoring of key religious sites: Authorities in Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mirzapur, and Chitrakoot were instructed to stay vigilant as many Mahakumbh pilgrims visit these locations.
  • Facilities for pilgrims: Arrangements for food, drinking water, and uninterrupted power supply in holding areas were mandated.
  • Security for Basant Panchami Snan: Special security reinforcements will be in place for the Amrit Snan on February 3.

Additionally, former Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner Ashish Goyal and ex-VC Bhanu Goswami, who played key roles during Kumbh 2019, have been reappointed. Five special secretaries will also oversee security arrangements until February 12.
