Mahendra Bhatt is all set to become the Uttarakhand BJP President for a second term, as he was the sole nominee for the post. Bhatt filed his nomination in the presence of several senior leaders, including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, and MP Ajay Bhatt.
The party released the election notification and the voters’ list for the posts of State President and National Council members. According to BJP’s internal constitution, only party workers with three years as active members and ten years as primary members are eligible to contest for state president.
Election Procedure Explained
To contest the post of state president, a candidate must be jointly proposed by 10 members of the electoral college, and these must represent at least one-third of the total elected districts. For the National Council, members will be elected by the State Council, based on the number of Lok Sabha seats in the state. Each combined pair of two Lok Sabha constituencies will elect at least one representative, ensuring adequate representation of SC/ST categories.
With only one nomination filed, Bhatt’s re-election is a formality and reflects a strong consensus within the party.
