Mann Ki Baat 126: PM Modi Pays Tribute to Bhagat Singh and Lata Mangeshkar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Sunday in the 126th episode of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat. Reflecting on the journey of the program, he said it has been a unique experience to connect with people, learn from them, and share stories of the country’s achievements. “While speaking with you all and sharing thoughts, I did not even realize when 125 episodes of Mann Ki Baat were completed,” he remarked.

Marking the significance of the day, PM Modi noted that it coincides with the birth anniversaries of two iconic figures of India—freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

Paying homage to Bhagat Singh, the Prime Minister said he remains an eternal source of inspiration for every Indian, especially the youth. He recalled Bhagat Singh’s fearless spirit and his sensitivity towards people’s suffering. Even before his execution, Bhagat Singh wrote to the British demanding to be treated like a prisoner of war and asked to be executed by firing squad rather than the gallows, a reflection of his indomitable courage.

Remembering Lata Mangeshkar, PM Modi said her songs have touched every emotion of humanity and inspired generations. He highlighted her patriotic songs that evoked deep feelings of devotion to the nation and noted her strong bond with Indian culture. “Anyone who loves Indian music and culture cannot remain untouched by her voice,” he said, paying heartfelt tribute to the legendary singer.
