Mild Earthquake Tremors Felt in Chamoli, Magnitude 3.4 Recorded

Chamoli: Mild tremors were felt in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Monday evening. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake struck at 6:47 PM with a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located within Chamoli district, at a shallow depth of around five kilometers. No loss of life or property has been reported.

Residents rushed out of their homes as tremors were felt briefly. District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar confirmed that the quake was of low intensity and urged people not to panic or believe in rumors. He assured that the situation is under constant monitoring and that no damage has been recorded so far.

This is the third earthquake felt in Uttarakhand this month. On October 2, mild tremors of 2.1 magnitude were recorded near Gundiyatgaon and Mahr villages in Purola tehsil, while on October 14, a 3.6 magnitude quake was reported near Mori-Arakot on the Uttarakhand–Himachal Pradesh border. Earlier in January, the state experienced eight mild quakes, none of which caused any reported damage.
