In response to irregularities found in the minority scholarship scheme, the Uttarakhand government has ordered re-verification of all educational institutions flagged during the earlier investigation. This includes the Sanskrit college in Vasukedar, Rudraprayag, which was being run by a person from a specific community and has come under scrutiny for suspicious registrations.
According to officials, the institution had enrolled students from distant regions such as 24 Parganas in West Bengal, raising concerns about the legitimacy of their registrations. Earlier in May, the state government had initiated a probe into 92 institutions and schools identified as suspicious on the National Scholarship Portal. Of these, 17 were found involved in irregularities related to minority student scholarships.
The Minority Welfare Department has sent the findings to the Ministry of Minority Affairs and has now instructed district magistrates to ensure that no guilty institution escapes scrutiny. Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate confirmed that letters have been issued to the respective district administrations for a fresh round of verification.
The case from Rudraprayag further highlights the extent of the scam, where two West Bengal-based female students were found registered in Shri Saraswati Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, run by an individual named Nasruddin. Officials suspect more out-of-state registrations and have assured strict action based on the final investigation findings.
