MPs to Play Key Role in Accelerating India’s TB-Free Campaign

To realize the goal of a TB-free India, the central government has devised a strategy involving Members of Parliament (MPs) in the nationwide campaign. Starting January 1, TB detection camps, known as Nikshay Shivirs, will be organized across parliamentary constituencies and completed by February before the Budget Session. These camps will deploy Nikshay vans in MPs’ constituencies to screen suspected TB cases on the spot.

Nationwide Campaign Scope: According to the Union Health Ministry, the initiative will cover 347 districts across 33 states, reaching over 1.5 lakh gram panchayats through health teams. The program will not only identify TB patients but also conduct awareness drives. MPs are expected to take active roles by fostering partnerships with industries, corporate entities, and non-governmental organizations to create ‘Nikshay Mitras.’

Community Involvement and Youth Engagement: In the first half of January, village heads and ward leaders will collaborate with health teams to conduct local-level campaigns. Special youth engagement programs will be held from January 16 to 24, ensuring minimal disruption to board exam preparations. During the Budget Session in February, community awareness programs will also be organized.
