Heavy rains devastate Narendra Nagar’s Daur village, school destroyed, villagers demand relocation

Torrential rains caused massive destruction in Daur village under Gram Panchayat Daur near Narendra Nagar on Wednesday night, leaving villagers in panic throughout the night. Electricity supply was cut off, and continuous lightning and thunder kept people awake and fearful.

The downpour washed away three connecting culverts, cutting off access to the village. Agricultural fields, irrigation canals, and drinking water pipelines were destroyed, leaving no water source for residents. A junior high school building collapsed under the debris, its roof caved in, furniture swept away, and toilets and kitchen buried under rubble. Villagers now fear for their children’s education as the school has become unusable.

Residents recalled that in 2011 a similar disaster had claimed six lives in the same village. They said such calamities occur almost every year and demanded relocation to a safer place.

Local representatives, including village head’s representative Vikram Kantura and Patwari Vinod Rana, assessed the damage. Narendra Nagar Tehsildar Ayodhya Prasad Uniyal assured that based on the survey report, compensation will be provided soon.

Villagers who suffered the most damage include Prem Singh Pundir, Jot Singh Pundir, Kunwar Singh Negi, Gyan Singh Negi, Rajendra Pundir, Ravindra Pundir, Musaddi Kantura, Arvind Singh, Pooran Singh, Arjun, Prem Singh Kantura, and Sunder Singh.
