National Games: SAI May Manage Uttarakhand’s Sports Infrastructure

Uttarakhand’s ₹100-crore international-level sports infrastructure, developed for the 38th National Games, may come under the management of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). This step could benefit athletes across the country while preserving these state-of-the-art facilities. Sports Minister Rekha Arya mentioned plans to establish a sports academy in the state for better management and maintenance of these resources.

SAI’s Involvement and Praise

SAI Director General Sujata Chaturvedi inspected sports venues in Dehradun on Thursday, including the Olympic-standard shooting range at Maharana Pratap Stadium, equipped with 160 electronic targets. She praised the infrastructure and suggested that SAI’s involvement could ensure their upkeep through central government funding.

State Government’s Efforts

Amit Sinha, Special Principal Secretary (Sports), stated that a meeting with SAI is planned to finalize the collaboration. The state government is prioritizing the preservation of sports facilities and equipment to provide top-notch training opportunities for athletes in the future.
