Organized jointly by AIIMS Rishikesh’s General Surgery Department and the Association of Breast Surgeons of India (ABSI), the CME workshop saw participation from doctors across various health institutions. It focused on new biopsy techniques for breast cancer detection. Addressing the event on “Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) in Breast Cancer,” Prof. Meenu Singh stressed the importance of medical education in cancer care advancements, noting that the workshop would enhance surgeons’ skills for more accurate diagnostic results.

Dean Academics Prof. Jaya Chaturvedi praised the Surgery Department’s initiative, emphasizing the value it would provide to physicians beyond AIIMS. Medical Superintendent Prof. Satya Shri Balija underscored the need for early detection and management of breast cancer cases amid rising incidences in the country.

Head of the Surgery Department, Prof. Somprakash Basu, proposed establishing AIIMS Rishikesh as a nodal training center for breast cancer diagnostic techniques, calling the workshop a major step in strengthening patient-centered cancer care.

Experts highlighted that SLNB has emerged as a key procedure in early breast cancer management, offering more precise staging with less morbidity compared to traditional axillary lymph node dissection. The workshop included live demonstrations, hands-on training, lectures by national and international experts, case-based discussions, Q&A sessions, and clinical practice updates.
