Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered an immediate halt on the opening of new liquor shops across the state. The directive was issued to Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, who has been asked to ensure strict compliance.
The decision comes following public complaints regarding the allotment of new liquor outlets. The state government had earlier prohibited the opening of liquor shops near religious places and educational institutions. Now, a blanket pause has been placed on all new liquor shop allocations.
According to sources, the Chief Secretary has instructed district magistrates to reconsider the objections raised at the local level and take appropriate action accordingly.
