No Compromise on Quality in Construction Projects: Commissioner IAS Deepak Rawat

Haldwani – A review meeting chaired by Kumaon Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister, IAS Deepak Rawat, was held yesterday (Friday) at the camp office in Haldwani to assess development projects worth over ₹5 crore in Kumaon Division. The progress of projects executed by the Jal Nigam was a key focus of the meeting.

Commissioner Rawat directed implementing agencies to expedite pending works and submit handover reports without delay. He issued a stern warning that negligence in construction work will not be tolerated, and there must be no compromise on quality. He also instructed that plantation drives be planned in all institutional campuses during the upcoming monsoon season, with preparations to begin immediately.

Jal Nigam GM Mridula Singh informed that eight construction projects worth over ₹5 crore are underway in Nainital district. A 90-bed modern hospital at Motinagar, Haldwani is complete, while 60% of the Kathgodam bus terminal is finished. The Ramnagar bus terminal is also progressing swiftly. A 10-bed Ayurvedic hospital in Bhimtal has been completed, and the 60-bed TB unit at Sushila Tiwari Hospital is near completion.

Regarding the proposed Driver Training Centre and RTO office in Gaulapar, Haldwani—facing objections from the Railways—Commissioner Rawat instructed the RTO over phone to find alternative land and submit a new proposal promptly.

In the area of sports infrastructure, the GM reported progress on the construction of hockey turfs, football grounds, and athletic tracks across the division. The hockey turf at Haldwani Sports Stadium is ready, while works in Rudrapur, Champawat, and Pithoragarh are ongoing.

Joint Director (Economics & Statistics) Rajendra Tiwari and project managers from Jal Nigam were also present at the meeting.
