Northeast Flood Crisis: Amit Shah Assures Full Support from Centre

Heavy rains have worsened the flood situation across the northeastern states of India, leaving over 14 people dead and affecting thousands. Assam remains the worst-hit, with more than 78,000 people impacted across 15 districts. In addition to Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram have also witnessed significant destruction, while transport services including roads, rail, and ferry routes have been disrupted.

In response to the worsening conditions, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, as well as the Governor of Manipur, to assess the ongoing situation. Shah assured them of all possible support from the central government.

Taking to social media, Shah emphasized that the Modi government stands firmly with the people of the Northeast “like a rock” in this time of crisis. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing as local authorities, disaster management teams, and central agencies work to restore essential services and provide aid to those displaced.

The continuous downpour has triggered landslides in hilly regions and submerged several low-lying areas, raising concerns of further deterioration if rains persist. The authorities have urged people in vulnerable areas to relocate to safer zones and stay alert to weather advisories.
