Dehradun: Taking a major step towards a drug-free Doon, the district administration has established Northern India’s first government-run Model De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, equipped with advanced addiction treatment facilities. The centre, located in Raiwala, will officially begin operations on November 1 and will be managed by the Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM).
District Magistrate Savin Bansal chaired a meeting at the Rishiparna Auditorium to finalize preparations for the centre’s launch. The facility will offer a single helpline number through which patients can access counselling, medical treatment, and rehabilitation support. The helpline will be launched soon.
The centre has been developed within two months under the supervision of the district administration and the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with AIIMS Rishikesh, where 10 dedicated beds have been reserved for addiction treatment.
DM Bansal directed officials to conduct block-level training sessions for ANMs, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, and self-help groups to strengthen the fight against substance abuse. He also emphasized school-level awareness programs under the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan and the Navchetna Model, aiming to educate children about the ill effects of drugs and help addicted youth recover.

The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, District Social Welfare Officer Deepankar Ghildiyal, SPYM Director Dr. Rajesh Kumar, and Coordinator Ayushi Chaudhary.
