Spiritual leader and Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shared his views on the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative on Tuesday. He emphasized that elections are the soul of democracy, enabling critical debates and public engagement. However, he expressed concerns over the negative impacts of frequent elections.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar pointed out that repeated elections force candidates to make unrealistic promises and adopt populist policies, eroding public trust. He said this practice tarnishes the reputation of leaders and creates a perception that politicians are active only during elections.
He suggested limiting election campaigns to a fixed timeframe to ensure smooth governance. He also highlighted that frequent elections lead to resource wastage, hindering long-term development and fiscal stability.
According to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, implementing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept could mitigate these challenges and ensure better utilization of national resources.
